Breaking News: There is no news

The last update for the game came out at the start of the year, and the last devlog I made was near the beginning of February. It is now mid March, two weeks after I was planning to post a new update. I had originally had the ambitious goal of posting a new update every month. I'm hesitant to say that it was over ambitious, if perhaps somewhat naive. While I do think that I could generate a new update on a monthly basis, I'm realizing now that it's in a way disruptive to development. When I post a new update, I want their to be significant changes that a player can interact with, or new content to play around with.  The game is still rather early in development, and there's a lot of backend work that needs to be done to set things on the right path. Trying to add new content for players in a game that's barely put together is only going to lead to issues down the line.

So I think it's going to be a little while before the next version of the game comes out. I can't say for certain how long that will be, most likely when I feel like I have an actual game (there's a reason it's called a "Tech Demo" at the moment). I still intend to post updates to get a view of what I am working on. Currently I've been doing a lot of structural work, and changing some of the basics of how the game is even played (more on that once I'm further along).

In art and assets, I've been making strides in learning how to do pixel art. Before this project I had never done anything besides a couple of Bastard Bonds sprite edits. Now that I've gotten a bit more of a handle on doing pixel art, I've decided that the original sprites don't really cut it - especially since most of them weren't actually isometric in the first place. So I'm in the midst of redoing all of them, which is I'll just say a fair bit of work, even at this early stage. But I think it will definitely put thing on the right track for doing more complicated animations.

Speaking of which naked orcs marching isn't the only thing I've been working on. We're finally getting to the stuff that everyone is really here for.

Finally, completely unrelated to anything I thought I'd leave you off with this little drawing I did for Valentine's Day of Soren - one of the game's romanceable NPCs.

Until next time!
